29 Faces ~ Day 13

Wow, where has the time gone?  I haven't been doing much drawing lately, so I took time this morning and chose a random animal - the rhino!

I've never actually drawn one before, that I can recall.  It turned out to be a good exercise, because I learned that rhinos are very cute creatures once you start to see all the textures in their face.  They aren't just leathery beasts.  And their ears are cute.

The closest I've been to one is of course, at a zoo.  Sad, yes, but what can I do?  When I saw him, he just stood there, in the sun.  Maybe he was relaxing.

In a way, all animals and bugs are cute - okay, except maybe the piranha.  I won't go that far.

Anyway, next time you see a rhino, give him or her a look in the eye and maybe you'll see how adorable they are.

29 Faces ~ Day 9

No sketch for Day 8, sadly.  Just didn't have the time for it.  Ah well.  Today I drew my cat, Floyd.  He's reclining on the top of the fridge, where he likes to hang out for most of the morning.

He's a big, furry tiger--or, at least he thinks so!

I've got two cats, Floyd and Sox, and they are a from a big breed, not sure what it's called.  They're almost twice the size of a normal house cat.  Maybe that's why Floyd believes he's a tiger?

29 Faces ~ Day 7

Ok, here's a sketch that I like.

We had a cardinal that hung out in the back, near the parking lot, all summer.  He enjoyed sitting on the top of the fence, watching rabbits that came out in the evening to eat weeds and small plants.

The bird is no longer with us, but I like to think that he lived out his life and had fun in the semi-wilds of the back train property.

Note:  Some comments may not show up because they don't appear in the comments thing or because blogspot eats them.  When I figure out why, I'll fix it.  :D

29 Faces ~ Day 6

Hooboy, I think this one is the worst of the bunch.

Drawings gone wrong?

I know I can move up from here.  This quick little rabbit sketch leaves lots to be desired.  I'd rip it up and start over, but I do not have the time.  Ooops.

I feel bad for the rabbit, but he probably doesn't care, he's too busy running wild and eating grass!

29 Faces ~ Day 5

Okay, a frog-type creature it is!  I don't think it went over too well, but at least I'm posting here instead of hiding it.  He's on a weird angle.

29 Faces ~ Day 4

Okay, here's a cobra face.  I haven't drawn snakes at all since my youth (before electricity), so it took a while.  I don't recommend drawing such creatures if you only have about 20 minutes each day to do a sketch.

I hope it looks like a snake, it seems to have a few things wrong with it.  Ah well.  It was fun drawing.

Etsy Finds - One of My Recipes for the Superbowl...

Wow, my spicy hemp seed hummus recipe is featured today as one of the products on Etsy Finds.  I couldn't believe it.  It's a good feeling, yeah.

On the downside, well, it takes a lot of time to create and photograph items or recipes for the Etsy shop, so I wish that I had more than 21 items up.  Hey, it's one baby step at a time, right?

If you're anything like me, you've got a handful of different projects going on at the same time, plus family, work, etc ...

...and yes, I got up and started jumping around with excitement.

Today, recognition on Etsy Finds; tomorrow, a completed hemp seed cookbook...

29 Faces Day 3

I've never encountered a panda outside a zoo, but maybe one day I will.  It's a shame that animals are in zoos, but they appear to be safer places than remaining natural habitats, for various reasons.

Maybe this panda cub didn't want her pic taken, or maybe she wanted to eat some bamboo.  Do pandas attack cameras?  I've seen the footage of polar bears attacking (or playing?) with remote cameras.

Wait, this post was supposed to be about panda bears, not polar bears!  Ooops ...

29 Faces - Day 2

I decided to do the face sketch first thing this morning and ended up doing a red tailed hawk.  Growing up on a farm out in the county, I got to see lots of hawks and cranes in their natural habitat.

One thing I have to learn to do is put some weight down on the scanner so that the whole page is scanned evenly.

Not sure what anyone else thinks of this one, but I think I could turn it into a stylized stencil.  I'm seeing some cool shapes within it.

29 Faces ~ Day 1

Okay, here is my first little drawing for the challenge.  It's not the greatest, but I did it! Whew!

I chose to do a dog face instead of human.  It's an out-of-proportion sketch of a dog I knew that died last night.  It's a very sad situation.  Maybe I'll take the drawing and rework it or throw it into Photoshop and fix it up - or maybe it's just inspiration to do an accurate art piece of him.  Anyway ...

Looking forward to checking out everybody else's art.  Off I go ...
